Music

WHO IS THIS GUY?
Mama was my musical influence. She loved Big Band music, especially Glenn Miller and his world-famous Orchestra. My middle name came from him. On the other hand, my father expected me to be an athlete. So, I never had my first “real” musical instrument until I was 19. It was a 12-string Epiphone acoustic guitar. My hands were so small I couldn’t hold down the strings on the fretboard, so I strung the guitar with six strings.
When I finally bought my Huss Dalton six-string a dozen years later, I knew God had weaved songwriting into my heart. I had a lot of stories to tell. Of course, the songs and structure were crude. But the emotional purging was fulfilling.
I credit my style to a history of listening to rock and roll, folk rock, and later country music. My “Banjo” style of strumming and picking became my signature. (Fun fact: I can’t hold a guitar pick through an entire song without dropping it. Thus, my banjo style.)
You’ll find my sincere emotions on the surface of my lyrics. A seemingly unbearable amount of pain, rejection, and disappointment enabled me to write them. I know that these feelings aren’t unique to me. So, I hope they find meaning in others. If I can reach only one person and instill in them a meaningful message, possibly healing, then my mission is accomplished.
I hope you enjoy my songs. These seventeen were the first I recorded in my home studio. Watch for more songs to come soon. Thanks for stopping in. Let me know what you think. G.
